‘Enchanted Journeys’ provided an evening of magical music

On Friday evening, 21 October, the Lingo Lin Performing Arts Theatre was full to capacity with excited parents and guests eagerly awaiting the start of the annual Music Gala; and what a magnificent beginning it proved to be. The Massed OC Choir (consisting of students from Year 1 to Year 12) with three conductors, Mrs Emma Dron, Miss Michelle Sanders and Miss Rebecca Thomas, filled the entire auditorium with the sound of dozens of voices from the stage and a many, many more from the Pochino Choir who sang from the front of the Balcony. The entire theatre came alive with the magical music from the Circle of Life. It was indeed a spectacular opening to the evening.

The program, entitled ‘Enchanted Journeys’, was designed to take the audience on a trip from the plains of Africa to the Land of Oz, and far-off Galaxies. It contained songs of love and loss, messages of peace, fantasy and magic. The enjoyment of performing was very obvious among our young Kinder Chorus and Pochino Choir and the pleasure of singing in front of a packed audience was also observed from the students in the older choral groups.
There were some magnificent orchestral pieces, many combined bands and ensembles, all presenting very different styles of music, demonstrating the versatility of our students and their conductors. There were eight different sections of music in each of the two Acts.

The Ormiston College Music Department has had an extremely busy and rewarding year. Our Junior School students experienced a marathon of musical competitions and Eisteddfods and came away from each event with top awards.

Our Secondary Music students have not only enjoyed outstanding success in Eisteddfods and competitions locally but also interstate. This year 30 of our talented voice, strings, wind and brass students were accepted into the prestigious State Honours Ensemble Program at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University, to work alongside some of the finest conductors from Australia and overseas. Our Music Department is one of which we are very proud, well done to all involved in the magic that is Music Gala.
